Until recently, short of surgery, there wasn’t much we could do to tighten loose skin. But today, new advances in non–invasive laser therapy, phototherapy and radiofrequency treatments have made it possible to tighten skin anywhere on the body. The results are not as dramatic as those that occur after surgery, but they’re still impressive. And the procedures require no downtime. You can return to your daily activities immediately.

Laser Therapy: The lasers used to tighten skin are called non–ablative, which means they target the deeper layers of skin (dermis) while leaving the skin’s surface (epidermis) unaffected and intact. When the heat from the laser’s concentrated stream of light is transferred beneath the skin’s surface, it stimulates the growth of collagen and elastin proteins that give skin a smooth, plump appearance.

Phototherapy (Intense Pulsed Light Treatments): This is another non–ablative procedure. It uses high–intensity pulses of light (not lasers) to penetrate the skin, heat the underlying tissue, and stimulate the growth of collagen and other proteins.

THERMAGE (RADIOFREQUENCY THERAPY): This non–ablative technology uses radiofrequency to heat the skin’s underlying collagen, thus plumping up and tightening your skin.
